Guest Curator Fiona Schofield

I found it hard to choose just a few pieces for this exercise, but I am always drawn to works that have interesting line, texture and colour. I particularly like earthy colours, though Mary Donnelly’s interesting pastel colours always draw my eye. I adore abstract work and have especially loved having this big work by Raphe Coombes right near my desk in the gallery for the last two weeks.” - Fiona Schofield.

Q & A with Raphe Coombes

Raphe Coombes has been part of The Corner Store Gallery family since 2019 when he first submitted a work to our Landscapes Group Exhibition. I fell in love instantly and selfishly acquired the painting for myself, I just had to have it! Since then Raphe’s work has blossomed and developed while maintaining his signature, tactile style. The oil paint is so thick and buttery, you could eat it. Instantly recognisable by his symbolic gestures and repeated patterns and marks. Neon yellow dots of thick oil paint and swirly graphite lines create a unique language that represent the natural environment.

Live, Love, Paint is Raphe’s most recent body of work created at time of great change in his life, having recently become a father.

Live, Love, Paint is on display at The Corner Store Gallery from October 19th to 29th with pre-sales launching online at 8pm October 18th. Join us to celebrate the launch of the exhibition on Saturday November 22nd from 3pm.

We’ve been a big fan of Jackie Anderson here at The Corner Store Gallery for a couple of years now and have been very proud to call her one of our own since the beginning of 2020. Abstract Watercolour Workshop

Recently we held our first Abstract Watercolour Workshops here at The Corner Store Gallery. A small group of students were taught the basics of watercolour and created their own abstract artworks. We made colour charts, colour swatches to inform our final works, practised different blending techniques, mark-making and some other experimental exercises.

Studio Visit with Madeline Young

Tucked away behind The Corner Store Gallery is a room filled with art and craft supplies. Since we moved into our new home behind the gallery I’ve been lucky enough to inherit this little room as my new studio and craft room, much to my husband’s delight (no more painting on the kitchen table). I feel incredibly lucky to have this space, it’s right off the gallery so while I’m at work I can hide away and keep my practice alive.

Revisiting Lara Scolari's Artist Studio

Lara Scolari is no stranger to us here at The Corner Store Gallery, exhibiting with us back in 2016 for Cool Luxe. Before her exhibition in 2016, we visited gorgeous Lara at her home studio and gallery in Balmain. Lara’s stunning and vibrant work has evolved and developed into exciting new territories over the past 2 years. This year she’s bringing her most recent work back to Orange for Back to the Bush, a new exhibition showcasing Lara’s love of the bush and Central West.
