I’ve been weaving since 2002, after first introduced to traditional weaving in Condobolin NSW. For me, weaving is a soothing meditative art that allowed expression of my creativity, using natural sustainable and recycled materials. Weaving / basket making is a tactile experience that is immersed with life stories—the patience and pride in workmanship that is often missing in our fast paced lives.
In 2013 I went to the UK as part of cultural exchange program between Derbyshire Arts Council and ArtsOutWest NSW, to exhibit during the Wirksworth Festival and conducted weaving workshops for the public. Since then I’ve participated in various solo and group exhibitions as well as continuing to run weaving workshops.
I like to think that my pieces convey not only beauty but the importance of handmade cultural objects as they represent the beliefs, values and life stories. I find that it’s an evolving art practise combining the old with contemporary, and with my Indonesian/Chinese background I hope to continue incorporating my culture into my weaving.
