Naomi Lawler

Naomi Lawler is an emerging artist from Orange, NSW. Her style closely aligns with the school of the classical realists though her paintings often contain elements of the imaginative and surrealist genres. In her practice, Naomi seeks to use the classical academic principals of the old masters as the foundation of her often-allegorical paintings.

Naomi's work, including her many self-portraits are often a reflection of her own life experience as she continues to recover after nearly two decades of chronic illness and as a response to the death of her brother. Grief is present in many of her works, though not always obvious, and is a subject that she will continue to work through into the future.

Naomi’s passion for the academic method and the study of the old masters has imbued in her an eye for the subtle shifts of light across form and the importance of composition in the development of a strong narrative. Each artwork tells a story personal to the artist but is also open to the interpretation of whoever views it.
