As one of the world’s oldest endorheic basins, Lake George has a history of dramatically fluctuating water levels, despite having no outlet. This vast space is in a constant state of flux. The water levels depend simply on the balance between the evaporation rate on the lake surface and the rainfall and water flowing into the lake.

Often experienced through the car window or as a brief stopping point, this great lake is never fully in focus. Colour and light seem to bounce just outside of your periphery. This painting is not a single encounter but rather a lifetime of memories in passing.

Just for a day I would like to trade places with a single blade of grass.

On top of the highest peak I would plant myself in a place of stillness. I would surrender to the energies of nature and simply be.

I would have strength in my fragility knowing that in any given moment I could be whisked away, trading places with open spaces.

Timeless, tactile, and seductive, Morrison’s Excavated Landscapes are a truly magnetic experience. When we immerse ourselves in the viewing experience, we are making a bold claim that we deserve to be still, to be filled with wonder, and to experience the magic that we once knew but somehow forgot. Morrison’s paintings are a reminder that a single brush-stroke can transcend thought, and create a S-P-A-C-E of its own. One that leaves us standing somewhere in between. Each panel is an invitation for the curious mind to wonder, and question what beauty may be hidden just beneath the surface. Her performative layering and excavation processes reveal a rich history of perfect imperfection that gives endless depth to the two-dimensional surface. These paintings are created in collaboration with life. They are bold, and have an unforgiving intensity bound within the litres of paint on each surface. Fuelled by risk and the pure joy felt whilst walking within the Australian landscape, these paintingsare a true legacy of what it means to be stubborn in service of pure passion.
