Secret Garden brings together original paintings and ceramics by Pia Kuykhoven and Phoebe Turner in a celebration of colour, flowers and the enchanting details of the natural world.

Filled with imagination, playful forms and rich colour, the exhibition invites us into a world of gardens, blooms and wild, hidden corners. Across painting and ceramic works, Pia and Phoebe each bring their own distinctive way of seeing nature, creating a collection that feels joyful, curious and a little bit magical.

We’ve paired 13 of the region’s most talented artists with local culinary icons to create artworks celebrating the food, creativity & community Orange is famous for.

Sydney-based artist Sam Mackie creates delicate porcelain forms that explore memory, place and the quiet significance of everyday objects. Working from her studio in Avalon, she builds each piece through hundreds of fine brushstrokes, distilling landscapes, structures and familiar objects into their most essential form. Left unglazed and free of colour, the work has a quiet, almost ghostly presence, with light moving through the fine porcelain to mark the slow passage of time. Sam's practice asks how places shape our identity and whether an object can hold memory, questions rooted in childhood memories of watching her father, a bricklayer, transform simple materials into enduring structures. Her work has been selected for prizes including the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize and the Ravenswood Australian Women's Art Prize.

Sydney realist painter Natalie Lapardin turns the simplest subjects, fresh fruit, cut flowers and the quiet corners of everyday life, into paintings full of colour, skill and joy.

The Regional Art Prize 2026 finalist exhibition showcases original artworks from 73 artists living and working in regional, rural and remote Australia. Presented by The Corner Store Gallery, the prize celebrates the depth and diversity of regional artistic practice, with award winners selected across the Major Award, Acquisition Award, Landscape Residency and Emerging Artist Award.

Marissa Lico is a Mid North Coast artist whose richly textured acrylic and mixed media paintings explore memory, ritual, and connection. Drawing on her Italian heritage, background in photography, and a love of everyday moments, she creates evocative works that celebrate the warmth, nostalgia, and beauty found in daily life.

Melbourne artist Andrea Kirkham-Hopgood creates luminous oil paintings that explore the Australian landscape through light, atmosphere, and memory. Drawing from her own photographic references, she transforms familiar roads and natural environments into carefully composed works that balance technical skill with a deep sense of place and connection.

Chris Proctor is a Maitland-based Australian artist working primarily in painting, with drawing forming an expanded and integral part of his practice. Across both mediums, his work explores vulnerability, self-reflection and the universal dimensions of the human experience.

His paintings and drawings are characterised by loose, expressive linework, restrained compositions and poetic titles. Through simple imagery, visual puns and a subtle deadpan humour, Proctor creates work that invites quiet reflection without over-instruction - leaving space for the viewer to bring their own experience to each piece.

Narelle Higson is a contemporary Australian artist known for her expressive oil pastel drawings. Working intuitively, she layers oil pastel with cold wax to create rich texture, depth, and luminosity, revealing intricate surfaces through a process of layering and scraping back.

Inspired by the Australian landscape, her work explores the interplay of light, colour, and movement across grasses, bushland, flora, and water. After a career in health and children’s television, Higson returned to full-time art practice, developing a distinctive style that has gained national recognition. She has been a finalist in several juried exhibitions, with works held in private and civic collections in Australia and internationally.

Jo Fernandez is a landscape artist living on the outskirts of the historic village of Millthorpe, in the NSW Central Tablelands. Her work draws deep inspiration from the region’s expansive skies, open land, and the shifting light and colour brought by its distinct seasons. Clouds are an ongoing source of fascination for the artist. Ephemeral and fleeting, their continuous state of reconfiguration reminds us that change is the only constant in life. For the artist, gazing at clouds moves her from the recognisable to the abstract. Working with oil paint she captures the variations colour, shape, movement and texture.

In Cloud Dance, Jo presents a joyous, carefree and enchanted state of weightlessness and freedom, in an otherwise chaotic world. As always, Jo’s work invites us to pause, reflect, and find solace in the beauty that surrounds us.

This May, The Corner Store Gallery travels from regional New South Wales to Brisbane for the first time to take part in the Affordable Art Fair Brisbane, presenting a vibrant showcase of three artists from Orange: Madeline Young, Sophie Corks, and Larissa Blake.

Close friends as well as collaborators, the trio share a joyful commitment to colour and expressive mark-making, while each maintaining a distinct visual language.

Together, their work celebrates colour, friendship and the creative energy of regional artists, bringing a fresh and distinctly Australian perspective to the Brisbane fair.

Kim Bizo is an emerging Australian artist based in Armidale, New South Wales, known for her unique contemporary still life paintings. Originally from New Zealand, she studied at the Otago Polytechnic School of Fine Arts before settling in regional NSW in 2015, where she returned to her art practice with renewed focus.

Her distinctive paintings explore beauty, symbolism and femininity through intimate still life compositions, offering a fresh and contemporary take on everyday objects. Kim’s work is recognised for its layered meaning, playful detail and refined use of colour.

Rachel Lucas is an Australian ceramic artist working in stoneware and porcelain. After a career in science and business, and many years raising her family, she formally began her ceramics training at the National Art School, Darlinghurst in 2019.

Her Riverbed series reflects the elemental origins of clay, drawing on ancient ceramic traditions and the raw beauty of parched land. In contrast, her Mortals series considers ageing, loss and resilience. Created in part as a tribute to a friend lost during Covid, these works explore the balance between strength and fragility, presence and absence.

Distinctly Here invites you to explore the textures, forms, and familiar rhythms of Australian life through the work of three artists. From bustling built environments to quiet natural moments, each artist presents works that reflect their own sense of presence and connection to place - offering a glimpse of what feels truly, unmistakably Australian.

Eira Chidgey is a mixed media abstract artist whose intuitive practice explores memory, relationships, motherhood and the quiet rhythms of daily life. Her work is rooted in storytelling, drawing on shared human experiences and emotional connection through colour, mark and texture.

Born in Sydney and raised in Athens, Andriane is an Australian artist now living and working in Brisbane. Shaped by the cultural richness of Greece, she works primarily in oil painting, drawn to the medium for its depth, texture and saturated colour.

Her still life paintings combine decorative flowers with collected objects sourced from op shops, markets and her travels. With an emphasis on strong form, smooth surfaces and carefully balanced colour, her compositions create a sense of warmth, structure and ease. Rather than describing every detail, Andriane focuses on light, shape and mood, allowing each painting to suggest a lived-in space.

INSIDE THIS BOX is The Corner Store Gallery's annual small works art prize, showcasing original wall-mounted artworks by Australian artists and designers working across a diverse range of mediums.

Mischievous is a playful body of work by artist Yani Lenehan, celebrating the cheeky personality of the Australian magpie. These artworks present magpies not just as native birds, but as lively characters, curious, confident and full of attitude.

Emerging Newcastle artist Jodi Thompson creates small, colourful oil paintings of stylised interiors, capturing warmth, light, and the quiet beauty of everyday life. Predominantly self-taught, she has refined her painting practice through classes, experimentation, and ongoing exploration. What began as a lifelong love of art has grown into a distinctive style shaped by trial, error, and persistence.

This group exhibition explores the emotional and visual weight of light - how it shapes the everyday, reveals and conceals, and carries atmosphere, memory, and tension. Through diverse artistic practices, the works consider light in its many forms: what it highlights, softens, obscures, or holds.

Jules Bulleid is a contemporary landscape painter based in Western Australia. Drawing on her former life on the land and travels through the outback, her work explores the raw beauty and vastness of the Australian landscape.

Although rooted in place, Jules’ paintings often shift into otherworldly interpretations, moving beyond representation to capture mood, memory, and atmosphere. Her intuitive process begins in the studio, where images and impressions of light, colour, and detail serve only as starting points. From there, each canvas unfolds organically, unplanned and undefined, guided by an innate sense of place and connection to the land.

The result is a body of work that sits between reality and abstraction, evoking the spirit of the landscape rather than simply depicting it.

We’re delighted to welcome back local milliner Fiona Schofield for her 8th year at The Corner Store Gallery! Fiona has been creating exquisite, handmade hats and headwear since establishing her own label in 2004, following her training in Fashion Design and Illustration at The Whitehouse Institute, Sydney.

Fiona’s work blends timeless style with practicality, offering custom-made hats and headpieces tailored to each wearer. Her seasonal collections celebrate craftsmanship, comfort, and individuality, ensuring every piece is as unique as the person wearing it.

You will be able to shop ready made pieces or chat with fiona to have something custom made to you size, style and needs.

Stu Doherty is a contemporary watercolour and gouache artist whose work explores the layered beauty and complex history of the Australian landscape. Working on paper with meticulous, meditative precision, Stu captures both the physical textures and the deep emotional resonance of the land. His practice is defined by transparent washes, grainy textures, and carefully masked highlights, finished with cold wax to invite a more intimate encounter with the work - free from the barrier of glass.

Jessica Olpp is a Melbourne-based visual artist whose work reflects a quiet lyricism and deep appreciation for stillness. Raised among the bushlands of Warrandyte and having lived and worked in France, Jessica brings an introspective and poetic quality to her paintings. A lifelong creative, she began painting as a meditative balance to her career as a French teacher. Her background in classical dance, poetry, and foreign languages informs her visual art practice, which is rich in emotional nuance, atmosphere, and a sense of calm.

Amanda Twyford’s oil paintings are full of life and lush colour, breathing energy into everyday still life subjects and natural landscapes. As she says, “A still life painting may be still, but it should always be full of life.” Inspired by the French Impressionists, Amanda loves working from life, whether painting en plein air or capturing the fleeting effects of light and movement in her studio. Her work continues to evolve toward a more direct approach that celebrates vitality and the essence of a passing moment.

Leisl Baker is a Toowoomba-based contemporary painter celebrated for her expressive landscape and still life artworks. Working primarily in oils, Leisl captures fleeting moments in time as vivid visual snapshots, using a spontaneous, energetic, and intuitive painting style. Her process is both physical and deliberate: she applies thick layers of oil paint to board, then works wet-on-wet to convey the ever-changing light, atmosphere, and energy of a place.

Established in 2019, the Mini Series Art Prize is The Corner Store Gallery's biannual Australian art prize, inviting artists to present a cohesive three-piece series as a preview of a future solo exhibition.

Sam Suttie’s work is characterised by its meticulous still life compositions, often featuring native Australian flora, birds, and symbolic elements. Her paintings are created from her imagination, drawing upon reference materials and occasionally three-dimensional objects. The arrangements are imbued with metaphysical themes and social commentary, reflecting her interests in environmental issues, climate change, and biographical narratives.
