Jules Bulleid is a contemporary landscape painter living in Western Australia. She draws inspiration from her previous farming life and journeys through the outback.
While strongly inspired by the landscape, Jules' work often will develop into an otherworldly interpretation, as she leans away from purely representational painting.
The result sits between reality and abstraction, evoking the spirit of the landscape rather than simply depicting it.
This piece reflects on her memories of a month-long road trip through central Australia, the ‘red heart of the country’.

Karlie Simring is an artist and designer based in Inner Sydney on Gadigal Land. Holding a Bachelor of Fashion and Textile Design, Karlie has enjoyed a creative career as a Senior and Head designer in the fashion industry for more than 25 years. Her early education also included a year at the National Art School. More recently, Karlie has explored various creative mediums, including watercolour, ceramics, basketry & weaving. She has now circled back to her love of cloth - exploring contemporary textiles, focusing on surface embroidery and collage. Art and design are Karlie’s guiding passions, with the world of textiles continually inspiring her process. Drawing from her experience in fashion, she infuses her work with a considered sense of colour, form and detail. Karlie’s process is intuitive, as she explores and observes her surroundings. Her art is an interplay of line, texture and tone, creating stories with a deep appreciation for materiality and tactility. Mark making with thread, brings the viewer into her inner world.
Karlie had a solo exhibition in 2024 at The Corner Store Gallery in Orange and has exhibited at Saint Cloche Gallery and Campbelltown Arts Centre.

Deb Michell-Smith is a regional NSW artist whose drawing and painting practice focuses on outback and regional Australian landscapes. Her work explores presence, resilience, and connection to place, often capturing moments of stillness and transition. Figures, animals, and land coexist in her paintings, suggesting quiet narratives of endurance and belonging. A finalist in the John Villiers Outback Art Prize and the National Emerging Art Prize, Michell-Smith lives and works in regional New South Wales.
“This collection comes from time spent in outback and regional Australia. These are places where the land stretches wide, the light can be harsh, and everything feels heightened rather than romantic.
These paintings reflect a quiet way of looking and waiting, noticing what endures in these landscapes: solitude, watchfulness, and a deep sense of resilience. I’m interested in how figures, animals and the land share space. There’s often stillness, but never emptiness. Fencelines, trees and distant horizons become simple markers of time, survival and connection.
These works aren’t about spectacle. They’re about slowing down and being present long enough to notice what remains. For me, this is what feels distinctly here: the weight of the land, the easing of time, and the quiet strength found in outback and regional Australia.”
