Marissa Lico - La Passeggiata

Online Exhibition Dates: August 2nd - 15th

Online Sales Launch: 8pm August 2nd

Marissa Lico is a visual artist based on the Mid-North Coast of New South Wales. Working in acrylic and mixed media, her practice is shaped by texture, layering, and an intuitive approach to surface. Drawing on her Italian heritage and a deep reverence for the ordinary, her paintings explore how ritual and memory shape the way we experience home, food, and connection.

Her work evokes the glow of a shared table, a street softening into evening, the unhurried gesture of gathering — moments that feel both intimate and timeless. Grounded in a background in photography, her work often begins with the captured moment, bringing together subject, memory, and storytelling with warmth and intention.

Marissa holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts and balances her studio practice with a career in teaching. She has been a finalist in respected art prizes including the Mini Series Art Prize and the Inside This Box Art Prize, and her work has been exhibited in galleries across Australia and Scotland.

The way people take to the streets as dusk settles, unhurried and deliberate, dressed as though the evening itself warranted care, is a noticing that, in time, became this work.

La Passeggiata draws on the Italian tradition of the evening promenade: a ritual of presence, belonging, and unspoken continuity. These paintings do not document the tradition so much as inhabit it: a summer market, a narrow street opening onto something magnificent, figures pausing for food, wine, and conversation. Others hold only the spaces between: a window, a doorway, an empty chair, the presence implied by the waiting.

La Passeggiata is an invitation to connect: with place, with people, with what has always been there.
