Eira Chidgey - Shedding Old Skin
Online Exhibition Dates: March 22nd - April 4th
Online Sales Launch: 8pm March 22nd
Eira Chidgey is a mixed media abstract artist whose intuitive practice explores memory, relationships, motherhood and the quiet rhythms of daily life. Her work is rooted in storytelling, drawing on shared human experiences and emotional connection through colour, mark and texture.
With a background in textile design and a First Class Honours degree in Contemporary Applied Arts, Chidgey has a strong sensitivity to surface and pattern. Her layered abstract works often incorporate found materials and stitch, creating tactile compositions that balance intuition with material depth.
This body of work is inspired by the beginning of a new year and the feeling of shedding old skins and moving forward with intention. Created during periods of immersion in nature, these works respond to time spent sleeping beneath tall trees and swimming in quiet lakes. The resulting paintings are raw and unrestrained, guided by truth and intuition rather than perfection.
Chidgey is a UK-born artist now based in Newcastle NSW. She was a finalist in The Newcastle Club Foundation Art Prize 2025, The Hunter Emerging Art Prize 2025, The Leda Art Prize 2025 and The Mini Series Art Prize 2025. Her work has been exhibited widely and is held in private collections across Australia, Europe and the United Kingdom.
