Chris Proctor Online Exhibition

Flying Lessons from the Bird Who Never Left the Nest

Online Exhibtiion Dates: June 14th - 27th

Online Sales Launch: 8pm June 14th

Chris Proctor is a Maitland-based Australian artist working primarily in painting, with drawing forming an expanded and integral part of his practice. Across both mediums, his work explores vulnerability, self-reflection and the universal dimensions of the human experience.

Central to Proctor's practice is the belief that art functions as a direct reflection of its maker. He works with worn brushes and pens that resist precise control, allowing error and hesitation to remain visible in the finished work. Rather than correcting these imperfections, Proctor absorbs them into each piece - where they become integral to its meaning and form.

His paintings and drawings are characterised by loose, expressive linework, restrained compositions and poetic titles. Through simple imagery, visual puns and a subtle deadpan humour, Proctor creates work that invites quiet reflection without over-instruction - leaving space for the viewer to bring their own experience to each piece.

We’re constantly being told how to live. What to do, what matters, what works. A lot of it comes from people repeating something they were told. And look, we’re all guilty of doing the same. Repeating things without really thinking about where they came from. Some of it is true. Some of it just sounds like it is.

This exhibition is about second-hand knowledge. It's passed down confidently, as if all problems have the same solution. Instructions for your life from someone who isn’t living it.
