Studio Visit with Fleur Stevenson

Fleur’s process is slow and sophisticated, with many techniques, mediums and layers being utilised. Spray paint and stencils feature often, revealing the detailed layers beneath, creating a rich history and story.

This recent body of work was created for our new group exhibition FLORA, on display from September 14th to 24th. The brief was “abstract botanicals” and Fleur has risen to the challenge with a magnificent series of five soft, feminine, mixed media paintings.

I visited Fleur in her Rozelle home studio to see the new work, some final touches and a good overdue catchup!

FLORA is on display from September 14th to 24th with pre-sales launching online at 8pm September 13th.

Q & A with Jo Dyer

Jo Dyer has exhibited with us here at The Corner Store Gallery on and off over the past 18 months and we just LOVE her layered, tactile, feminine aesthetic. Jo is based in Newcastle and has enjoyed a successful boom in her practice over the past couple of years exhibiting widely across Australia.

Botanical Extracts is Jo’s second solo exhibition of 2021 (she’s been a very busy woman) and we are thrilled to show you this fabulous body of work. Unfortunately due to many lockdown’s and restrictions I wasn’t able to travel to Newcastle to see Jo’s studio but she was kind enough to send through some shots of the work in progress and answer a few questions so you guys could get to know her better.

Botanical Extracts is on display from August 18th to 28th 2021, with online sales launching at 8pm Tuesday August 17th via our website.

Revisiting Lara Scolari's Artist Studio

Lara Scolari is no stranger to us here at The Corner Store Gallery, exhibiting with us back in 2016 for Cool Luxe. Before her exhibition in 2016, we visited gorgeous Lara at her home studio and gallery in Balmain. Lara’s stunning and vibrant work has evolved and developed into exciting new territories over the past 2 years. This year she’s bringing her most recent work back to Orange for Back to the Bush, a new exhibition showcasing Lara’s love of the bush and Central West.

Studio Tour with Amy Wright

I'd describe Amy as a mark maker and mixed media artist.  Her work is built up of layer upon layer of different mediums such as acrylic paint, pencil, pastels and charcoals.  Amy also uses collage techniques to create textural, tactile qualities.  Her themes vary from still lifes through to landscapes, and sometimes a mixture of the two.

As well as completing this series of work for Suburban Requiem which making its way to The Corner Store Gallery, Amy already has one solo exhibition under her belt after the birth of her first baby Maeve in 2017. I caught up with Amy to learn just how she does it...
