Nerrida Parfitt is an Australian landscape painter based in Ballarat in Victoria's Central Highlands. Working primarily in oils, she draws inspiration from the landscapes of regional Australia, combining direct observation with imagination to create paintings that sit between reality and memory.
Influenced by Australian Gothic traditions and subtle surrealist ideas, Nerrida's paintings explore landscape as both a physical place and an emotional experience. Familiar roads, paddocks, bushland and country towns become settings where light, shadow and atmosphere suggest stories beyond what is immediately visible.
Her work is characterised by a careful balance of realism and imagination. Through considered use of colour, composition and light, she creates landscapes that feel both recognisable and quietly unsettling, inviting viewers to bring their own memories and interpretations to each scene.
Nerrida's background in visual art, graphic design and multimedia is reflected in the strong compositional structure and technical discipline that underpin her practice. She holds qualifications in Visual Art, Electronic Design and Interactive Media, Graphic Design and Design.
Since 2004, Nerrida has exhibited extensively throughout Australia, presenting solo and group exhibitions in Victoria and New South Wales. She has been selected as a finalist in numerous art prizes, including the Bluethumb Art Prize, the Lethbridge 20,000 Small Scale Art Award, the Regional Landscape Prize and INSIDE THIS BOX Art Prize at The Corner Store Gallery. Her work has also been exhibited at Affordable Art Fair Melbourne through Brunswick Street Gallery.
