Phoebe Turner
Intuitive ceramic vessels shaped by memory, material and the natural world
Phoebe Turner is a ceramic artist based on the far South Coast of NSW, creating intuitive, organic vessels that explore memory, material and the natural world. Her work is known for its whimsical, floral and gently wonky forms, each piece shaped through touch, balance and experimentation.
Raised by a potter, clay has always been part of Phoebe’s life, from early memories of handbuilding and raku firings to a more recent return to ceramics as a daily, meditative practice. Working without fixed outcomes, she allows forms to emerge intuitively, often beginning with a pinch pot and continuing until the clay reaches a point of tension or instability.
Inspired by time spent in nature, from rock pools to fungi spotted on walks, Phoebe’s surfaces reflect both environment and process. She layers multiple glazes, slips and oxides, embracing experimentation and the transformative nature of the kiln. Her vessels are autobiographical objects, holding traces of place, time and personal history.
