Simon Palmer

Abstract Landscape Painter

Simon Palmer is an Australian artist whose current practice centres on abstracted landscape painting. Working along a spectrum from loosely representational to more distilled, non-objective forms, his work explores the tension between place, perception, and memory.

With a background in architecture and graphic design, Palmer approaches painting with a strong sense of structure and surface. His compositions are defined by soft, transparent layers and a nuanced, intuitive use of colour. Edges, whether crisp or dissolving, are deliberately employed to create mood and movement, allowing space for ambiguity and emotional resonance.

While earlier works focused on semi-abstracted landscapes, Palmer has steadily deepened his engagement with abstraction and colour theory. His paintings often evoke a sense of place, yet remain open to interpretation, anchored more in feeling than geography.

Palmer now works full-time on his art practice, producing a growing body of abstract landscape paintings that reflect both a refined technical process and a quiet, contemplative sensibility.
