Amanda Twyford

Australian Still Life Painter

Amanda Twyford is a dedicated still life and landscape painter living and working amid the picturesque Barossa Valley in South Australia. Originally from regional Northern Victoria, Amanda’s love of drawing and painting began in early childhood. Although she started a Fine Arts degree before shifting to a Bachelor of Interior Architecture in Adelaide, her commitment to art never wavered.

Largely self-taught, Amanda’s artistic journey was profoundly shaped by workshops in Florence, Italy, where she immersed herself in traditional and impressionist techniques. This experience sparked a deep passion for classical methods and helped her develop her own vibrant, expressive style.

Amanda’s oil paintings are full of life and lush colour, breathing energy into everyday still life subjects and natural landscapes. As she says, “A still life painting may be still, but it should always be full of life.” Inspired by the French Impressionists, Amanda loves working from life, whether painting en plein air or capturing the fleeting effects of light and movement in her studio. Her work continues to evolve toward a more direct approach that celebrates vitality and the essence of a passing moment.

Amanda has exhibited widely across Australia and been selected as a finalist in numerous art prizes, including the Heysen Prize for Landscape and the Fifty Squared Art Prize in Melbourne. Her paintings have featured in group exhibitions at The Corner Store Gallery in Orange, Aspire Gallery in Brisbane, and other notable venues.
