Anna-Karina is an emerging artist in the second half of her life (born 1969), igniting her enduring passion for the arts after an almost two decades long academic career. In 1989, she obtained a Propaedeutic diploma (propedeuse) from the Academy of Fine Arts, Maastricht, Netherlands. After another year of training in sculpture, she left the Academy to study Archaeology and Cultural Anthropology. In 2013, she enrolled in the 'Diploma in Ceramics' program at TAFE in Hornsby, obtaining her diploma (with distinction) in 2016. Since then, she has established her own studio in Yarramalong, where she hosts workshops and produces her own body of work. She has successfully entered several art competitions, and her work has been selected as a finalist in the Gosford Ceramic Art Prize (2017, 2023), the National Emerging Art Prize in 2021 and the Klytie Pate Award in 2021, to name a few.

This work is very much inspired by the Australian environment we live and work in. The large cylinder vessels made of red clay, explore the interaction between identity, relationality and place. It highlights our struggles of belonging and becoming, and our ongoing efforts in creating connections with our natural and social environment.
