Kirsty’s work is a response to the vastness and rugged beauty of the Australian landscape - its golden light, boundless skies, and the quiet pulse of nature that seeps into your soul. They are places of solitude and connection, where time slows and the land hums with memory.
Kirsty immerses herself in these environments, absorbing their shifting moods: sketching in the field, taking notes, and capturing fleeting moments in photographs. These field studies become the foundation of her studio practice, where she transforms memory and experience into textured, emotive compositions.
Acrylic paint allows her to move fluidly, building layers of light and atmosphere with brushes, palette knives, and handmade tools. She embraces texture - the scrape of a palette knife, the wash of translucent color—seeking that balance between detail and abstraction, realism and the ephemeral.
Rural landscapes speak of resilience and stillness, their quiet expanses steeped in the ancient and unknowable nature of the land. Coastal scenes carry the movement and translucency of the ocean, often fringed by bushland that feels both protective and wild. In both, there is a sense of reverence - for land, for sky, for the open spaces that rejuvenate and restore.
The pull to go deeper in her understanding and interpretation is evident in her work: she strives to push colour further, to capture light in a way that lingers, to create work that invites the viewer not just to see, but to feel immersed in the landscape. Her paintings are about experience - of freedom, contemplation, and joy.
