Dee Roberts - Michelia Maudiae Blossom
Dee Roberts, Michelia Maudiae Blossom

Contact us about personal payment plans and Layby.
Nestled in the rolling hills of the Central Tablelands, Oberon bursts into colour each spring following its harsh winter. The Michelia Maudiae in my garden had almost died in the drought four years ago. The purity of the white blossom prompted me to create a dark setting, in a nod to Tenebrism, painting from life, using natural studio light in this classic still life painting. The timber panel is from a discarded pine chest of drawers, adding to the mystique of this heavily scented blossom.
A full time artist, Dee Roberts was raised on a rural property in Central NSW. Dee has an extensive association with the visual arts, including drawing, ceramics, print making, painting at National Art School, TAFE, Willoughby Art Centre. Dee has a Bachelor of applied Science, a long term Conservator career at Sydneys Powerhouse Museum, contract exhibition work at Hazelhurst Regional Gallery, NSW Parliament house & Sydney University Art Gallery.
