Fiona Thorning trained at Queensland College of Art, majoring in Printmaking, Sculpture, Ceramics and Photography. She went on to obtain Secondary School Teaching certification and taught at several Brisbane High Schools.

“I have always loved painting and have produced a few each year since my teens. I started painting full time in 2022. I am completely in love with the art. Nothing brings me more joy than painting daily.”

Fiona enjoys the challenge of Realism Painting. Perspective tends to be traditional. She often incorporates intricate patterns.

“I don’t strive for photorealism, but I definitely employ a degree of realistic accuracy.”

Fiona draws upon her collections of vintage fabrics and china for still life subject matter. Landscapes and portraits are from her own environment and observations, often imbued with the unexpected. I like to create work that is authentic to my life experiences, enhanced with my imagination.

A change in sleep patterns means I often rise at 4am. The works are observations from around my home and neighbourhood.
