I enjoy painting small works. They are an excellent opportunity for me to distill the colours, shapes and features of locations and landscapes at a quick and workable scale.
This view of the mountains and fields surrounding the famed Woolmers Estate near Longford, Tasmania emerged as I explored the historic property early last year. As I stood in the shade of a large pine, the mid-afternoon sun illuminated the landscape, defining the layer of shapes and patterns in the fields below. I relished the still, peaceful scene on a Summers day with nothing to call me away from the view.
