I’m primarily a picture book illustrator, and not so long ago discovered I really enjoyed landscape painting as a meditative change from illustration. It came as a surprise to me but when I think about it, I’d been looking at scenes and feeling a strong impulse to attempt to paint them for quite a while.
Painting became a rather lovely Sunday morning hobby. But then I decided I wanted to get better at it. So, with advice from my mum, I’ve been learning more about colour, balancing compositions and using darks and stronger colour effectively.
