Jane Tonks is a regional Artist living on Wiradjuri Country, Orange NSW. With a Diploma of Fine Arts, the artist specialises in contemporary landscape painting. Jane examines natural environments to inform her art practice and is currently exhibiting at Orange Regional Gallery with her 6th solo exhibition, ‘Nature I Nurture’. Jane has received several awards, including 2020 Calleen Art Award 'People’s Choice Award'. Jane’s work has been commission for major group exhibitions including, ‘Conversations with Clarice Beckett’ at Orange Regional Gallery, Dec 2024 – March 2025 and ‘While the World Waits’, an Arts OutWest touring exhibition from 2022 - 2024, with the final show held at NSW Parliament House in 2024.
This painting is inspired by the incredible resilience and beauty of old growth eucalypts found in remnant, sub-alpine bushland on Gaanha-bula, (Mt. Canobolas). This particular tree, bends, twists and turns around a large boulder, holding on in defiance against the ravages of time and extremes of weather.
