Joel Tonks is a multidisciplinary artist living in Orange NSW. His works investigate the relationships between art, science, and everyday life, with a focus on local landscape and ecology. 'Niguza eucesta' is is part of a series of works inspired by the scientific taxonomy of Australia's unique flora and fauna, and natural history collection displays. The beauty of Australia's moths are often overlooked compared to butterflies, with both belonging to the insect order 'Lepidoptera'. Moths play an important role in the "night shift" pollination of native plants, and are often a critical part of the plant's life cycle. Without moths, many species would not exist.
