Julie Lynch is a full-time Australian artist whose practice celebrates the beauty of the natural world and the quiet narratives embedded in vintage and contemporary objects. Based in Sydney’s Inner West near the Cooks River, her surroundings provide a continual source of inspiration. Lynch’s paintings bring together vibrant flora and fauna with nostalgic and modern elements, creating works that feel both intimate and alive. Through bold colour, layered texture, each piece offers a moment of connection, inviting the viewer into a space of reflection, warmth and visual storytelling.
Hydrangeas and Geranium is a simple, pared-back still life created in oil pastels on board. I was drawn to the quiet beauty of the flowers sitting in a clear glass jug, letting colour and shape do the work rather than detail. The oil pastels allowed me to soften and abstract the forms, giving the piece a loose, impressionist feel. It’s about slowing down and noticing those everyday moments—light, colour and calm—found in something as familiar as flowers on a table.
