"Echo" continues my exploration of the coastal intertidal zone as an ever‑changing threshold where permanence meets flux. The work was developed through a layered, intuitive process that balances control with chance. Gritty textures and smooth passages sit in quiet contrast, while washes of ink built depth and patina over time. This approach mirrors the influence of water on rock, suggesting subtle, ongoing change, and invites a slow, contemplative way of looking.
Inspired by the Australian coastline, my practice centres on interpreting the coastal landscape through a process of distillation - simplifying natural forms into stylised compositions that sit between abstraction and representation. Working across painting, mixed media, and relief sculpture, I draw on a decade of experience in architecture and furniture design to blend geometric clarity with the organic rhythms of the natural world.
