I am a New Zealand born contemporary painter, based in Melbourne, Naarm. I paint entirely en plein air, immersed in the landscape. Painting directly, the movement and immediacy of my brushstrokes draw attention to the physicality of the paint and are a direct response to the full sensory experience –sounds, scents, insects, birds, touch of the air - that comes with being present in the land.

My work explores the beauty, power and vulnerability of our wild places, revelling in contrasts between strength and fragility and celebrating nature’s survival. In this artwork the tiny twisted snowgum that I found at the edge of an abandoned quarry on the Bogong Plains sums up the resilience of nature – life persists, returns, creeps over, finds sustenance in our mess as soon as we leave it alone.

I have been painting since 2020, have exhibited regularly in solo and group shows and been a finalist in art prizes including the Mornington Peninsula Contemporary Art Prize, Bayside Painting Prize, Harden Landscape Prize and the Soho Art Prize. I have work in private collections across Australia and overseas.
