Lina Ocolisan is a Sydney based ceramic artist whose sculptural forms and vessels explore social and cultural themes. Raised in Arnhem Land and shaped by a multicultural background, Lina brings a unique perspective to her work, drawing on lived experience and a deep curiosity about human connection.
After a successful career in finance, she discovered ceramics and was captivated by the tactile, meditative nature of clay. Her practice focuses on unorthodox slip casting techniques, using deconstructed plaster moulds to create unique, fragmented forms.
Lina’s work reflects a strong narrative voice, challenging conventions while engaging with contemporary issues through material, process, and form.
"Between Facades" is a trio of porcelain sculptures which explore the fragile interplay between who we are and what we present to the world. The forms - precise and minimal, echo the tension between containment and exposure. Smooth interiors suggest curated exteriors, while textured or scarred surfaces hint at the complexity beneath.
Each porcelain piece embodies a physiological threshold; the point at which the private self pushes against the pressure of public expectation. The interplay of black and white, matte and gloss, purity and rupture, reflects how identity is constructed, concealed, and occasionally revealed. Together, they form a quiet yet powerful reflection on the masks we wear, the truths we withhold, and the spaces where vulnerability and control intersect.
