Jacqui Brown is an Australian artist whose rustic, romantic, and painterly works beautifully capture the spirit of the Southern Highlands and beyond.
Growing up in Burrawang, NSW, Jacqui was inspired by her mother’s quilting, her grandmother’s crafts, and a sketchbook from her navy grandfather. A pivotal introduction to mural painting at Moss Vale High School in 1992 set her on an artistic path, leading to a Diploma in Fine Arts in 2000, where she developed a love for acrylic painting under mentors Susan May, Robyn Kinsela, and Bob Millis. Her style combines rich colour, tonal depth, and fluid brushwork to bring cyclists, quaint cottages, and Australia’s wildflowers and snow-capped peaks to life.
As an artist deeply rooted in the Southern Highlands for over 45 years, Jacqui creates works that capture a landscape caught between past and present. Her paintings document the subtle changes in the countryside she remembers, blending nostalgic street scenes and rolling hills with reflections on growing development. By weaving in native flora and fauna, she invites viewers to emotionally connect with the land and consider the importance of preserving the unique character of rural towns.
Following the 2020 bushfires, Jacqui explored themes of resilience and renewal through expressive brushstrokes. After completing an artist residency in 2024, her latest series continues to celebrate the charm of the Highlands while sparking conversations about heritage, environment, and community.
