Eve Hoskins is a self-taught artist based in Orange, NSW. She creates vibrant and intricately detailed acrylic paintings of everyday objects. With a background in engineering and architecture, her work is marked with thoughtful compositions, bold colour, fine detail and a strong sense of geometry.
Raised on a farm near Goulburn, Eve draws inspiration from the textures and forms of rural life juxtaposed with the elegance of luxurious fabrics and ornate tiles.
Eve has painted and drawn all her life but since having her two children in the last few years she has made the time to pursue art further. She has been a finalist in the inside this box competition at the Corner Store Gallery the last two years.
This series explores the contrast between rustic farm objects and elements of luxury - rich patterns, flowing fabrics, and vibrant tiles. It reflects the character of Orange itself: a country town with an unexpected touch of elegance.
The works depict detailed rustic farm items; dad’s old Akubra, husband’s worn boots, old horse shoes. Bold geometric tiles interact with the movement of fabric, while aged farm objects anchor the compositions in a sense of place and history. Together, these elements celebrate the beauty found in the meeting of the worn and the refined, the rural and ornamental.
