Fiona Davey is a printmaker and artist based in Melbourne/Naarm, her practice considers the connections between different patterns, surfaces, and forms within nature through an exploration of mark making. Fiona graduated from a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Monash University in 2018 and has since exhibited across Australia and New Zealand with work held in Public and Private Collections. She has previously been a finalist in a number of art prizes; most recently being selected for the Omnia Art Prize 2025 and St.Lennox Art Award 2025. In 2024 Fiona had her first solo show, To Traverse a Mark, at the Firestation Print studio through the Shirley Joan Ross Scholarship.
These works are part of a larger series of prints created in response to different beach locations along the Victorian coastline. Each print is made from impressions and marks from each site, recorded on copper plates; layering and colour are used to express atmosphere and texture observed in a landscape. The work reflects my own experiences and connection to the landscape with the use of layering and colour to express the atmosphere and texture observed. Beaches, for me, are unique meeting points where surface, ecosystem and atmosphere intersect and are shaped by one another. Each one offers a unique experience - moments of stillness, movement and transformation - which I aim to reflect and explore through process and material.
