Margaret Hogan is an Australian artist based in Bathurst, New South Wales, whose practice is rooted in observation, reflection, and an enduring love for the landscape. Her focus is painting, where she brings together a lifetime of creative work, storytelling, and visual communication.
After completing a Bachelor of Arts in Communication at Mitchell College of Advanced Education (now Charles Sturt University), Margaret began a dynamic career in regional media throughout the 1990s, working across television and radio in copywriting, producing, and on-air presentation. She later moved into marketing and public relations with Charles Sturt University, the Central West Community College, and Arts OutWest, deepening her commitment to regional arts and culture.
Now devoting herself full-time to painting, Margaret is experiencing fresh momentum. She exhibited in her first Sydney group show at Maunsell Wickes Gallery in March 2025 and has been invited back in 2026. Her work, grounded in the landscape, explores how memory and emotion shape what we see. The Turon Trilogy is her response to recent trips north of Bathurst: a wild, ancient, and complex landscape distilled into compositions that evoke not just a sense of place, but the way it can move us—reminding us that the extraordinary often lies just beyond the familiar.
Influences range from long camping trips in NSW national parks to encounters with the work of Morandi, Matisse, Richard Diebenkorn, and Idris Murphy. Mentorships and workshops with artists including Harrie Fasher have further enriched her practice.
From her Bathurst studio, Margaret continues her lifelong creative journey—a conversation between observation and imagination, structure and feeling—approached with clarity, determination, and a deep sense of possibility.
