Marissa Lico is an Australian artist based in the Central West of New South Wales. With a heart attuned to the grace in small things, she creates visual narratives that honour memory, place, and the quiet poetry of life.She graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts from the Australian National University’s School of Art, where her creative eye was first sharpened through the lens in Photo Media. Over time, her practice evolved beyond photography as she taught herself to paint, developing a richly textured style shaped by curiosity, emotion, and lived experience.Inspired by the rhythms of daily life, Marissa captures fleeting gestures, familiar streetscapes, and subtle moments of connection. Her paintings create a space for pause and reflection, gently holding the everyday with reverence and warmth.
Exhibited in group shows across Australia and internationally, including in Scotland, her work invites engagement with subtle storytelling and sensory detail.
This series of three paintings captures the simple poetry of life lived Out The Front - of doorways, of stories, of time itself. A single Sicilian street winds its way across the panels like a thread of lived memory: sun-drenched, joyfully unhurried. This is not just a place, but a stage for la dolce vita in motion.
Each work holds a pocket of daily ritual: the gentle clink of glasses at the Vino Mescita, the soft rustle of fabrics and citrus-scented souvenirs from Casa di Sicilia, the quiet delight of seasonal regular savouring a gelato outside the Gelateria.
People gather, pause, and pass through. They dine, wander, chat, linger. Hands gesture mid-story, mid-thought, mid-laughter. The street is continuous, but life unfolds in layers - a living fresco of Italian culture where commerce and connection intertwine.
These works are both documentary and dream: painted moments where the boundary between observer and participant blurs. The viewer becomes the flâneur, strolling between frames, invited to eavesdrop, to taste, to remember.Out The Front is a celebration of the everyday - where the ordinary becomes poetic, and the local becomes timeless.
