Tara Coey is a landscape artist based in the Central West of NSW, working primarily from her home in Orange. With a background in communications and creative agencies, Tara returned to her passion for painting after relocating to the region in 2020. Inspired by the changing seasons and expansive rural landscapes, her work captures the quiet beauty in everyday moments – light glinting across a paddock, a shadow stretching over a dirt road, or a crooked fence fading into the distance. Her thoughtful compositions and subtle detail invite viewers to pause and reflect on the small elements that shape our connection to place. Tara has exhibited at the SOLSTICE Exhibition at Aspire Gallery (2025) and OFF THE WALL at Peisley Street Gallery (2024–25). She holds a degree in Advertising and Public Relations from QUT and a Graphic Design qualification from Shillington College.
This series of three works captures a quiet, mist-filled landscape where trees and scrub appear as silhouettes against soft, diffused light. Each piece holds a sense of stillness, where light dapples across the field in a way that feels playful yet restrained.
At first glance, these are calm, pastoral scenes. But there’s a subtle element that shifts the perspective – a boundary line that runs through the composition. It’s not immediately obvious, but it creates a quiet separation between the viewer and the scene. I am interested in this concept of looking in from the other side, not quite part of it, but not fully outside of it either.
Through careful composition and understated detail, these works invite the viewer to pause and notice what might otherwise be overlooked – the quiet presence of a tree or shrub, the way fog softens the edges of everything. They suggest that meaning can be found in the small moments of observation and distance.
