Amanda Western - The Old Homestead
Amanda Western, The Old Homestead, 2025
Linocut print, 52x60cm framed
My practice is grounded in close observation of regional and rural landscapes, particularly places where human history, environmental change and everyday life remain visible in the land. Working primarily in hand-carved linocut, I am drawn to old roads, waterways, farm structures and working landscapes shaped by labour, drought, flooding, neglect and care. Through strong contrasts and intricate marks, I explore memory, resilience and the physical character of place. My work invites viewers to look beyond a familiar rural scene and consider the histories, relationships and environmental pressures held within it.
Amanda Western is a Ballarat-based printmaker and installation artist whose work explores regional landscapes, environmental change and the histories embedded in place. She has exhibited widely across Australia and internationally. In 2026 she was a finalist in the Glover Prize, Pro Hart Outback Art Prize, Tattersall’s Club Landscape Art Prize, Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize, John Villiers Outback Art Prize, Muswellbrook Art Prize and the 3rd Print Biennale in India. Her work is held in several public collections, including the Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi, Central Goldfields Art Gallery, Whitehorse Art Collection and Sunshine Coast Art Collection
