Karen studied fine arts at TAFE NSW and attended workshops with many tutoring professional artists including Ted Lewis, Warwick Fuller, Peter Griffen, Jacqueline Coates, Lyn Butchart, Colley Whisson, Ken Tucker, Craig Penny, Robert Knight, Victoria Tucson, Larissa Blake, Loretta Blake, Kristine Ballard, Cherry Hood, Judith White, Rhonda Campbell, Debbie MacKinnon, Paul Macklin, Tim Allen.
Karen entered Parkes and Forbes Agricultural Shows over recent years, winning awards in various sections. In 2024 awarded ‘Grand Champion, Fine Arts’ at Forbes and winner of floral and abstract sections at Parkes Show. Since leaving full time teaching Karen has concentrated on her art, developing style and technique and passing her skills on to others through developing and facilitating workshops including privately and with Parkes and Forbes Shire Councils and other service organisations.
Karen is a member of the Parkes, Forbes and Orange Art Societies and has been involved in solo and group exhibitions, with her work in private and local government collections around Australia. Karen works in a variety of mediums including acrylics, oils, watercolour and mixed media and seek inspiration from the environment particularly the natural landscape of central west NSW. Karen employs a loose, free flowing brush style that seeks to capture movement and the transient nature of our environment.
