Melinda Retford, Naomh, 2025

Ceramic, 44h x 10w x 10d cm

Melinda Retford studied at the University of Newcastle, completing an Honours Degree in Performance, Literature, and Creative Arts, along with a Diploma in Education. It was during her studies that she began blending media with live performance, culminating in a solo feminist piece for her Honours project. Melinda’s creative journey later expanded into visual arts, recently earning her an Advanced Diploma in Visual Arts with a focus on ceramics.

Her sculptural work explores the deep connection between humanity and nature, drawing on mythological symbols and ancient spiritual traditions. Through her anthropomorphic forms, she examines emotional bonds with the Earth, emphasising transformation, metamorphosis, and rebirth. Natural and human forms flow together in her practice, expressing the fluidity of life and our spiritual interconnectedness with the natural world.

Melinda’s evolving practice reflects a commitment to storytelling through diverse mediums, inviting audiences to engage with deeper truths rooted in both body and earth.
