Sharron Mountain - Lines in the landscape
Sharron Mountain, Lines in the landscape: suspended horizon in 16:9, 2025
Ceramic, forage clay, blended clay, oxides, raw minerals and glaze materials, 22x10x19cm
My practice explores the changing Australian landscape through themes of climate change, environmental fragility, and geological time. Inspired by the journey west across the Great Dividing Range, I celebrate the distinctive colour, texture, and organic forms of the bush while reflecting on its continual transformation.
Sustainably foraged local clay informs my practice, creating a dialogue between place and material. Combined with layered glazes, mineral washes, and embedded natural substrates, these surfaces evoke the textures, resilience, and quiet beauty of the landscape, inviting contemplation of our connection to the environments we inhabit.
This version has a stronger sense of movement and discovery, suggesting that the landscape unfolds as you travel west, while remaining concise and appropriate for a regional landscape prize.
