Taryn Cameron-Smith, We Wandered Down a Laneway, 2026

Polymer and pencil, 33×43cm, framed

Taryn is an artist based in the Yass Valley whose practice is centred on observation, connection, and storytelling. She is a current finalist in the Archibald Prize at the Art Gallery of NSW for her portrait of Akira Isogawa. Taryn is particularly drawn to the challenge of portrait painting, seeking to capture not only a strong likeness but also the unique character and presence of each subject. Alongside portraiture, Taryn enjoys painting the quiet, everyday moments that often pass unnoticed, finding beauty and meaning in the ordinary. Working primarily with synthetic polymer paints and pencil, her work reflects a thoughtful appreciation for people, place, and the fleeting details of daily life.
