Last weekend we were incredibly privileged to have some wonderful artists from Bula’bula Arts visit us here at The Corner Store Gallery, all the way from central Arnhem Land, Ramingining NT. Director of Bula’bula Arts Mel George accompanied Janice, Kathy and Jeanette to see their exhibition DILTJIPUY, RETJAPUY GA RANGIPUY (it comes from the bush) which is on display until Saturday March 9th. Mel is incredibly knowledgeable about the Yulnu culture and arts practices and we were also lucky enough to see a weaving demonstration on the Sunday morning.

We had a lovely small group of local artists who came along and learnt how to photograph their work. We did lots of idea swapping, and generally had a nice time…

Recently we held our first Abstract Watercolour Workshops here at The Corner Store Gallery. A small group of students were taught the basics of watercolour and created their own abstract artworks. We made colour charts, colour swatches to inform our final works, practised different blending techniques, mark-making and some other experimental exercises.

In the week leading up to Christmas we held a number of Native Wreath Workshops. They were such a fantastic success and the most fun I’ve had in a long time. I was so impressed with everyone’s finished products I thought I’d share them all here.

This morning I attended one of the Small Worlds Watercolour Workshops with one of our favourite exhibiting artists Ingrid Bowen.  Ingrid just finished up a week long residency here at The Corner Store Gallery as part of our special Artist Run Gallery Program. The gallery served as a working studio for Ingrid all week long as well as a workshop and exhibition space.  Students were instructed to create a painting exploring the theme of "small worlds", something Ingrid does on a regular basis.
