Elizabeth is a New Zealand-born, Sydney-based mixed media stitch artist who creates unique “stitch paintings” that combine abstract expressionism with semi-realistic depictions of the natural world. Working intuitively, she uses threads, yarns, beads, and sequins to build layered textile compositions on linen or canvas, approaching her work much like a painter.
Her practice begins organically, led by a tactile engagement with her materials, and gradually transitions into a more intentional phase where she refines composition, colour, and texture. The result is artworks that are both visually striking and emotionally resonant; personal interpretations of nature’s beauty and resilience.
Elizabeth works full time from her home art studio in Sydney. She has exhibited in numerous group shows and has held two exhibitions: 'Forests and Foreshores' at The Corner Gallery, Stanmore (2024), and 'Magical Places' at Tiliqua Tiliqua Gallery, Enmore (2025). She is the 2025 winner of the AGES Society Art Prize. Her work is available through exhibitions, her website, and Instagram.
This mini collection of three stitched and beaded artworks explores the idea of ‘microcosms’; tiny, imagined microenvironments full of colour, texture, and life. Each piece is inspired by the beauty and complexity of nature, in thread and beadwork.
Individually, and together, these works invite you to slow down and look closely. They celebrate the small wonders of the natural world and the joy of creating with simple materials. Each stitch, bead, and thread reflects my personal connection to nature’s quiet strength and beauty.
