Lorraine is a ceramic artist whose sculptural vessels delve into the intricate relationships and shifting dynamics of family. Working primarily with black clay, she embraces its raw presence to evoke memory, tension, and tenderness. Her practice is grounded in experimentation - pushing the boundaries of form, texture, and firing. Often favouring single firings and unglazed surfaces, Lorraine allows the clay to speak in its simplest, most honest state. Through touch, mark-making, and material intuition, she captures the subtle ambience that lives within silence, space, and the emotional weight of connection.
These piped ceramic forms, raw and single fired, are grounded in the immediacy of touch and memory. The unglazed surface invites the eye to trace each mark, allowing the material to speak without adornment. Negative and positive space form a quiet dialogue - like the unspoken tensions or warm recollections exchanged around the dinner table. Each piece becomes a fragment of conversation, shaped by shifting perspectives between siblings, the distortion of time, and the evolving dynamics of family. These vessels do not seek resolution, but instead hold space for layered memories - where silence, laughter, and contradiction coexist.
