Madeleine Simson is a contemporary Australian artist living and working in Melbourne, Victoria. She works mainly in acrylics and is a realist still life painter. Her use of colour and shadow create bold, highly detailed and photorealistic compositions. Madeleine finds beauty in the more mundane things. She loves the challenge of making everyday items like shopping trolleys, milk crates and half eaten toast, seem like a masterpiece and something to be beholden. Madeleine paints the bubbles in a cup of coffee or crumbs on a tablecloth, with enough detail and colour, they jump off the canvas.

Madeleine Studied Visual arts at RMIT university in 2003-2004. She majored in painting. She then studied Illustration at NMIT in 2005-2006. where she won the Aquent award for excellence in Illustration. Madeleine has worked in Graphic design, Textile design and Illustration for the past 17 years. Working in these roles has refined her skills and eye for detail, her illustration skills come through in her paintings and she can use her knowledge of colour and lay out to compose an interesting and unique Composition on the canvas.

Madeleine is Represented by Satch and co. Gallery in Holbrook and with Art to art gallery in Balwyn, She has had two solo exhibitions one in 2017 and one in 2019. She has exhibited in many group shows. She has been a finalist in the Bluethumb art prize twice and been a finalist in the' art to art' unearthed competition.

These three paintings are part of my latest series "THRIFTY" the concept behind this series is reusing and repurposing things we already own and how nature thanks us for it. I love thrift shopping, I love finding treasures that I can reuse rather than constantly buying new plastic from K-mart. I used to be apart of the fast fashion industry and I saw how much waste it produced, It broke my heart. I try to get hand me down clothing for my kids and find bargains at the opp shops because I think it helps our environment. These paintings are bags that I have kept over the years, I reuse these bags for kids lunches, lollies and even groceries. the animals and insects around the bags, symbolise nature and how we are helping our world by using things 3 ,4 or even 20 times rather than once.
